A Guide to Building a Ready to Use First Aid Kit

You never know when a first aid kit might come in handy. Of course, you would rather not have to deal with a situation in which you have to use it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a ready to use first aid kit on hand. The issue is that most people take first aid kits for granted. After all, you see one of those at your workplace and one at home, but do you know what goes inside a first aid kit? If you are dealing with a medical emergency, you won’t have the option to learn about it, hence to help you out, here’s a guide to building a ready to use first aid kit:

  • Start off by learning what each item in the kit is used for. A standard first aid kit has a number of instruments and medicines to help people in need. Depending on the situation, you will have to pick the right item, but more importantly, use it properly as well. This is where you need first aid and CPR training. You can check YouTube videos to learn about it or have an experienced medical professional teach you. This will not only enable you to help others in need but you can guide your friends/ family if you are the one in need of urgent medical care.
  • The second aspect is to know what the kit contains. You need to have a list of items on hand so you can make sure all of those are in your first aid kit. Some items are pretty basic, such as Band-Aids, bandages, scissors, plaster tape, and aspirin. You also need the right items on hand for treating cuts and wounds, allergic reactions, symptoms of illness, burns, and of course, pain. Also have gloves in the kit so you can put them on before coming into contact with the affected person. To make things easier for you, here’s a list you can refer to:
  • Cold Packs
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Thermometer
  • Scissors and tweezers
  • Gauze pads and adhesive dressing
  • Adhesive tape
  • Cotton balls
  • Flashlight
  • Antihistamines
  • Decongestants

Keep in mind, these are just some of the items you need in your first aid kit. Also, have an instruction manual that you can follow when treating a wound or helping a sick person.

These are the steps you need to follow to build a first aid kit which you can use at a moment’s notice, ensuring you are well prepared in case of an emergency.
