Lawn-King SG60RDE Ride on Lawnmower Review: The Best Small Ride on Mower

Lawn King SG60RDE Spec ImageIf you’ve got a large garden but don’t quite feel you can justify owning a ride on lawn mower, this could well be the answer you’ve been looking for. The Lawn-King SG60RDE is one of the best small ride on mowers currently available, and a great solution for those whose lawn mowing needs fall into that uncomfortable middle ground between pedestrian and ride on mowers.

Much smaller than a traditional lawn tractor, the 1.9l Briggs and Stratton Engine the SG60RDE uses is modest for a ride on mower, yet it’s still powerful enough to drive the propulsion and blade without any trouble. Compact and stripped down in nature, this ride on is small enough to manoeuvre around obstacles such as flower beds and trees, whilst also able to pass through garden gates and other narrow passageways traditionally off limits to ride on mowers. So for us it’s definitely the best riding lawn mower for small yard or garden.

From a usability perspective this mower is right on the money, gear changing is a simple affair using a foot pedal, and the mower is capable of every lawn mowing scenario from mulching to collecting and discharging. And what we really love about it is its ‘step through’ design, much like a scooter getting on and off of the mower is easy, perfect for the less able bodied, or if you need to disembark quickly to move objects out of the way as you mow.

When it comes to storage this mower is a winner on every count. The 150 litre grass collection bag is extremely roomy for a mower of this size, and should you have any worries about storing it when the mower isn’t in use, don’t. The bag is designed to sit on top of the seat, saving you important shed floor space.

Pros

• Compact design for use in larger gardens that are hard to negotiate
• Fully versatile mowing capability (mulching and collecting)
• Large (60cm) cutting width and range of cutting height adjustment
• Step through design for ease of use
• Compact design for ease of storage

Cons

• May only be reversed if the cutting mechanism is disengaged (a useful safety feature anyway)

Conclusion

To summarize, this mower is the must have option for the tentative ride on mower user, it’s not outrageous in its design, and it doesn’t hide behind dubious bells and whistles. What you see really is what you get with this mower, so if you like what you see you’ll like what you get!
