Black & Decker GW2500 Blower Vacuum Review

This is an excellent, multi purpose leaf blower that allows you to maintain your garden efficiently for a marginal price. Unlike other blowers it covers a variety of different settings which can tackle different situations, depending on your needs. This includes a blowing function, used to clear leaves in the usual manner; as well as vacuuming and shredding options should you wish to collect and dispose of whatever material you’re clearing.

Adding further mechanisms to an already complex format can often compromise other areas of quality, particularly the weight, and admittedly at 7kg this is quite noticeable in this blower. It might not be 100% ideal if you need to work for extended periods of time.

Whilst it’s small, this blower manages to push out an impressive 260kph blow speed. This could be considered problematic if you are clearing around delicate flowers or scenery, as there are no other settings to reduce power, so you’re stuck with a constant power level that will require care while using. On the other hand, if you are using it for high volume jobs in a clear open space this won’t be a problem.

The vacuum setting uses a manageable 35L bag to collect matter, making it easy to dispose of afterwards. On the downside the mechanism used to connect it to the blower is often quite tricky to attach. This becomes an even bigger issue once the bag is full and you need to take it off and reattach it for any reason. The size of the bag also comes in to question when a lot of competitors can accommodate a larger volume.

That said, disposing of leaves is never an easy task, so to help you this product will actually shred them for as you go about collecting them, certainly something to consider if you want to use the remains for compost or you wish to be able to transport them to the rubbish tip in compacted form.

Pros

  • Cost effective
  • Multiple settings, able to blow, vacuum and shred

Cons

  • Very powerful, thus possibly impractical for small gardens
  • Complicated bag attachment mechanism
  • Low volume bag size
  • Switching from vacuum to blowing mode requires the swapping over of nozzles, not exactly quick and easy

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a cheap alternative that can replace multiple tools (ie a rake and garden shredder) and free up some space in your shed or garage, this may be the  leaf blower/vac for you. It’s great at being able to do different things with just one piece of kit, but at the same time this is neither a master of blowing or vacuuming. We’d recommend this if you are clearing large open spaces and don’t want to spend a large amount of money (or time) doing so. It’s not the best leaf blower, but given the advantages of its disposal mechanism it’s definitely something to consider.
