Bosch PHG 600-3 Heat Gun Review

Bosch tools don’t need any introduction, after all they’ve been around for a long time, and in all that time have rarely disappointed. A big part of this success is down to their affordability, durability and effective performance. The Bosch PHG 600-3 is no different. Whether you want to solder metals, bend pipes, de-ice locks, or strip that old paint from your wall or furniture, this hot air gun will do the job easily and fast.

If you’re looking for a versatile and suitable hot air gun to perform a number of applications, look no further. One of the latest in a generation of Bosch hot air gun meant to match the endless needs of the modern DIY enthusiast or tradesman.

With a wide range of useful features like automatic temperature control, optional airflow control, a powerful and durable battery and much more, it’s the ideal tool for a whole range of DIY applications.

Particularly worthy of note is the ‘thermostop’, a feature that switches off the air gun should it get too close to an item you are working on thus preventing burning. The tool will then switch back on as soon as you’re ready to go again. If you’re a bigenner with such a tool, or are simply not very confident with it, this will provide you with much needed reassurance.

Since it’s made for DIY applications as well as serious workshop jobs, the PHG 600-3 is powered by a long lasting 1800 watt motor. This will provide you with enough power to carry out all the work you need to as quickly as possible, whilst of course still being safe thanks to the ‘thermostop’

You’ll have no issues working for hours on end here, the snugly fitting handle and Bosch soft grip design make for a comfortable operating experience, and at just 1.1kg in weight, this is very convenient for long hours of work should you need it.

Pros

  • Soft and flexible power lead making it easier to use on cold days
  • Good value for money
  • Bends pipes, strips paint and adhesives fast
  • Melts solder when working on metal – versatile application

Cons

  • Can’t be used without attachments, which are very expensive on  their own

Conclusion

Having looked at all its features closely, we can confidently say that this tool gives you more than what you would typically buy a heat gun for. It has everything that a professional can ask for from a hot air gun manufacturer, and more, so it’s difficult to pick fault with. In fact from the look of things, it’s hard to find anybody faulting it, and even though questions about the cost of its attachments have been raised, that’s expected because it uses high quality and long lasting accessories that can’t really be expected to be factored into the cost of the base unit.
