Hyundai HYM60LI380 Cordless Lawn Mower Review

When you think of hyundai you probably most closely associate them with petrol engines, they do make cars after all! However being the giant of oriental industry that they are, they aren’t afraid to dabble with other markets and technologies, including most recently the cordless garden tool market.

As the poster child for Hyundai’s new cordless garden tool range the HYM60LI380 certainly has some big expectations to live up to, not least because it comes with a much larger price tag attached than other market leaders from the likes of Bosch and even Flymo. Having said that, Hyundai have followed suit with many other manufacturers, in that the range of tools this mower is part of all use the same proprierty battery. So their is a saving to be made by buying ‘bare’ tools and only one battery to share between them. The claim is that this battery can be charged up to 1000 times, which seems pretty reasonable!

In tems of specifics, this is a large electric lawn mower, with a 38cm cutting width and 35 litre grass box it’s designed for medium sized gardens. On the subject of the grass box, this is an improvement on the design of other electric and cordless mowers, as it snaps together positively, and doesn’t feel too flimsy. At 13.4 kg this is actually pretty light for a cordless mower, largely thanks to the lithium ion battery, so you shouldn’t have too many issues pushing it around.

As far as safety goes, there are several features in place to ensure the mower cannot be started by accident, and so that when it is switched off it stays off. The main one of these is a removable plastic key, but there is also a certain procedure to starting the mower using the controls on the handlebar. This can be a little confusing at first, but you’ll soon find you get used to it.
