Firefly Streamline Rotating Electric Heater Review

This freestanding low level electric patio heater is a good evening companion for those who enjoy sitting outside after the sun goes down. With two power settings and a rotating option, it heats gently and quietly.

While this isn’t going to do much for larger groups or people moving around at a garden party, for those sat down enjoying the stars it’s definitely a good addition. The heat emission is very low at 450W and 900W and so this patio heater is really suited for summer evenings, late spring and early autumn.

With a tip-over safety feature, this electric heater will turn off if it senses it’s not completely upright. This is reassuring as it’s a lightweight product and children or dogs could run the risk of knocking it over. With no need for gas, this halogen patio heater is safe to use inside, outside and in enclosed spaces. It’s also much more energy efficient than gas counterparts.

The rotating function is useful for sharing the heat when sat together and at 82cm high, it really is an ideal height for a seated person. The 1.8m electrical cord is definitely on the short side but a simple extension cord would allow this heater to be outside in the garden quite happily.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and easy to move around
  • Ideal for one of two people sitting down
  • Low energy draw
  • Tip-over safety feature

Cons:

  • Gives out a quite low level of heat
  • Feels flimsy and insubstantial
  • Short cable

Conclusion:

The Firefly Rotating Heater is excellent for keeping you warm on a cool summer or autumn night if you’re outside and provides a good heat in slightly colder months if you’re in a conservatory. It won’t provide much comfort in deepest winter and its output is very low indeed. Fans of reading in summer evenings in the garden will enjoy this most.

The design is definitely more interesting than most patio heaters and the rotating function is useful if there are two of you. For the price I’d normally expect a higher kW output and this model does seem to have a particularly low one. The construction of the heater feels too light and flimsy to be durable but if looked after then it shouldn’t get damaged. If this is what you’re looking for then I don’t think it’s a bad deal, but for those who want real heat, it’s time to look elsewhere.
