Poulan Pro PP5020AV, a Cheap yet Solid Chainsaw
The Poulan brand has been around since 1944, and like many others, the company, branched over to garden tools later. Thanks to powerful two and 4-cycle engines in their machines, the tools are extremely durable. The Poulan Pro PP5020AV is a budget gas chainsaw, but the features and efficiency are inadequate. This tool reminds us of Husqvarna chainsaws, and that is hardly a coincidence, as the Swedish horticultural giant owns Poulan. As a result you get a similar quality, at a significantly reduced price.
The chainsaw features a Duralife 50cc 2-cycle engine. This very efficient engine generally runs very clean. You should not run into any mechanical problems for years. This is partly due to the anti-vibration system that not only helps with operator fatigue, but also adds to the lifespan of the power source. Most chainsaw models these days have some kind of feature making the starting process easier, and Poulan has a similar solution here.
One or two pulls should be enough to start the engine at any given time. At 15.5 lbs, the PP5020AV is not particularly heavy and, ideal for medium-duty work. No Poulan chainsaw review could be complete without talking about the potential disadvantages. This chainsaw is an excellent tool, but if there is a problematic area – you probably guessed it -, it is the chain.
If you use this chainsaw properly, and really take good care of it, you should be able to get good mileage out of it even with the stock chain. Having said that, if you can afford a better chain with the main purchase, you might like to replace it before you ever start. This may sound a little harsh, but the chain is always the weak point in chainsaws, and this is especially true for this model, so you might as well be prepared for it.
