Case Study: Einhell

It’s probably fair to say that outside of Germany people aren’t too familiar with the name ‘Einhell’ , and to be honest that’s both confusing and a great shame, in our experience they are one of the most dedicated and reliable brands around. Luckily their exists a select group of customers that are championing the Einhell cause, and you only have to read some of the customer testimonials on-line to discover the praise people have for both their products and customer service. Let’s take a closer look at this company to see where they’ve come from and where they’re going.

A relatively young organisation, Einhell as we know it today came into existence in the mid 1960’s when it’s founder Hans Einhell handed over his low profile installation business in Landau an der Isar, Bavaria to his nephew Josef Thannhuber, who as it turned out had much bigger ideas for the company far beyond anything his uncle had ever conceived let alone dreamt of.

Making the smart decision to build on his uncle’s established reputation by keeping the company’s original name, the young Josef soon took Einhell in a new direction, going beyond installing equipment, to actually designing and manufacturing it too. Early developments included industrial switchgear, transformers, and slightly later, an early foray into the gardening market with a range of barbecue sets.

Despite a few setbacks, most notably a fire at the company manufacturing headquarters, the next 2 decades saw nothing but continued growth for Einhell, with manufacturing operations being set up in Spain and the far east, and the floating of the company on the stock market in 1987 to ultimately seal the fate of Einhell as a major player on the world stage for the power and garden tool industries.

Today you’ll find Einhell products making a big impression, their garden tools are second to none, with one of our particular favourites being the GC-PM petrol lawn mower, as well as their range of strimmers, hedge trimmers, and blowers. They also make a fine range of other power tools, so in essence they provide stiff competition to the likes of Black & Decker and Bosch, and with good reason, very often the price is comparible and in many cases the features and performance are superior.

So next time you’re in the market for a new tool, before making a b line for your usual Bosch or Flymo, have a look at what Einhell have to offer, you might be surprised with what you find.
